Executive Recruitment

Human Resources

The Home Office is a people focused department where Human Resources plays a key role in developing a diverse, flexible and resilient workforce to deliver on our agenda. There are around 300 people in the directorate covering the whole range of HR activities from the provision of strategic business partner services to operational training and development. Beyond this there are a further 200 people working on HR issues across the Home Office, in due course this “shadow HR” will be brought under one command.

HR support is highly valued by the organisation. While reporting to the Director General, Capabilities & Resources, Charu Gorasia the Chief People Officer sits on the Executive Committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary.

HR in the Home Office is a professional and pragmatic strategic partner to the business: challenging, stretching, provoking and coaching our leaders and managers to bring out the very best from our people. We have developed and launched a People Strategy for the next five years, which was launched in October 2018. It provides the framework for significant transformational change in how we effectively deliver HR services and has been drawn up to directly support the needs, objectives and priorities of the department.  Your key responsibility will be to enable delivery against this People Strategy.

Whatever sector you come from you’ll need to be able to demonstrate how you have inspired, challenged and influenced leaders in a diverse, professional workforce, delivered high quality services at pace with real flair, and achieved excellent results in an environment of change, complexity, and sometimes ambiguity.

The current team are friendly collaborative, inclusive and diverse. We work across several offices, with our main hubs in London and Croydon. We put a real emphasis on people’s own learning and development, and want our HR people to develop their professional skills no matter their current level and experience.

The directorate is currently made up of c.300 people covering the following areas, with an experienced HR leadership team as detailed below:

  • Provision of HR strategic business partner services
  • Leadership, Learning, Capability & Talent
